It was a singular desire to be with you. 

No buried intentions or in betweens 

to make you feel something more 

than I could have ever hoped to deliver. 

Yet somewhere along the way, 

I made promises that broke you down. 

Maybe I was too eager to impress 

my placid heart within this microcosm 

of warm embraces and tender smiles. 

To hold on and never let go. 

How sweet, how safe; 

how selfish.
